Lonely Planet Guide to Central America (in) security in Guatemala devotes a whole chapter. The authors calculate how many in the last year was killed, how many of them were victims of assault with the weapon, and in the end that many of them were tourists ... Our fear is compounded have been met by the stories of genuine travelers - many talking about Guatemala as a country with extremely Grozny, a part of it painfully to desensitize myself. Approaching the chicken bus to the border we think to myself: Noooo, now it finally starts ... (By the way we thought himself so twice already - as `przelatywalismy from Cuba to Mexico, and later entering the Belize :-). On the bus we met
Two Poles, living in Canada - Andrew and Ana. They were on two weeks holiday, but behaved more like explorers wyruszajacy trip in several months - well prepared, thoughtfully, Issue every penny. In Canada they have two children. A person who in this story will appear soon afterwards ask them: ¨ Your daughters are traveling by truck some? · ¨ No. Watch television and go to discos ¨. Andrew and Anuszka were a bit like uprooted from Polish hostels in the mountains (climbing, moreover, his time off after our Polish mountains). Only that instead they should come pomidorowki now cut through rice with beans, and instead to Kasprowy soon have to climb to the ancient Mayan ruins. Fate would have it in our company ...
crossed on foot, and stepped out into the borders of Guatemala. From there we got on the bus to El Cruze - the village from which we had to move further Tikalu - the famous Mayan ruins. The last leg of a lorry carrying overcame tanks with water. The first stop in Guatemala, and how fantastic! The driver took us to the ruins themselves, and yet the way zaliczylismy stops on the beautiful lake, from which you take away his water. Anne and Martin August wykompali. I climbed on foot into the water, to do pictures of washing clothes Indiankom. Guatemalans are przemili people. Indian nice talking with us, allowed to be photographed (as opposed to the Indians in Chiapas), the children happily play with us. Fairytale scenery - lake surrounded by mountains, Indians, horses and our truck.
Well at last ... Tikal! Our new friends rent hammocks, we pitched our tent. The ruins of Tikal is impressive above all its wild surroundings - there are in fact the truest jungle, the circle of all this is already a tourist, unfortunately - a few exclusive hotels with expensive pubs. Falling asleep to the accompaniment
roaring monkeys, in order to already get up at 5 am. We want to see the ruins in the light of the rising sun. Unfortunately, we do not succeed - there you can enter only at 6 - otherwise you have to pay extra. But it is wonderful! At 6 am does not have any tourists. We feel like the real discoverer of the ancient Mayan! We visit Tikal for a few hours, climbing onto the more interesting buildings. View from the pyramids and temples are really impressive! Jungle and Mayan buildings surrounded by clouds!
As befits the true discoverers make the next great discovery ;-). Such namely with the Guatemalan jungle dotarl besides we still have a Pole ... Katka! We get the
bus and drive to Flores - a small town on Lake Peten Itza.
